I remember back in the 1980s when I was a Search and Rescue team volunteer, NYS Forest Ranger Frank Dorschak saying most of the people the Rangers rescued in the Adirondack High Peaks Wilderness weren't even carrying a daypack. Even today, they're more likely to have a cell phone than the 10 Essentials. Be safe, be prepared, and stay alive. Every trail. Every time.
